The Surgery RVT is responsible for providing high-quality surgical and clinical care, including anesthesia management and surgical assistance. They also manage department scheduling, maintain patient records, and provide home care instructions to clients.
Candidates must hold an Animal Health Technology college diploma and have a minimum of 2 years of RVT experience, preferably in surgery. Strong interpersonal communication, organizational skills, and a desire for professional growth are required.
The Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is empowered and responsible to act as a highly-trained RVT on the clinical floor to set an example of patient care, client care, and teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency. The Surgery RVT will report to the Lead Specialty Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) and works collaboratively with Dr. Bruce, Dr. Gilbert, and other specialty services to deliver high-quality patient care. This role will allow for a compressed work week with four 10-hour shifts.
Performs all technical responsibilities of an RVT including: Usage and care of medical equipment, as well as sterilization techniques. Placing IV catheters; calculating drug doses, fluid requirements and CRIs. Understanding and performing anesthesia, post-anesthetic recovery of Use of anesthetic ventilator and multiparameter monitors. Producing radiographs. Performing CPR. Collection and submission of various laboratory samples for Assisting in surgeries. Help manage department schedule, including consults, rechecks and Provides education and home care instructions to Maintains practice software including client and patient record Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety. Option to participate in on-call rotation for out of hours Openly and proactively communicates updates to DVMs, Lead Specialty RVT and other department team Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines of communication with other departments. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:
Education and Experience Animal Health Technology college diploma. Minimum of 2 years RVT experience (preferably in a surgery department setting).
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proven active listening and problem-solving skills. Understands how to communicate difficult/sensitive information professionally. Strong time management and organizational skills including the abilities to plan, coordinate, multitask and prioritize. Genuine interest and initiative to help Pulse be the best practice it can be.
