The RRT provides comprehensive respiratory care, including invasive and non-invasive ventilation and airway management for neonatal, pediatric, and adult patients. They serve as a key member of the Code Blue team and develop therapy discharge and care plans within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.
Requirements summary
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with current CRTO registration and CBRC certification. Required certifications include BCLS, ACLS, and NRP, along with recent experience in adult critical care and neonatal airway management.
The RRT supports the care and management of patients requiring invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Other responsibilities include advanced neonatal resuscitation and newborn airway management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and ABGS; assisting patients with their pre/post tracheotomy care and needs; liaising with the medical specialists.
The RRT will provide respiratory therapy assessments, therapy discharge and care plans.
The RRT is also a key member of the Code Blue team.
The RRT will be required to attend patient and program meetings as well as communicate with appropriate home care vendors/clients.
The Respiratory Therapist will work autonomously, make decisions and apply judgement in their day-to-day work.
Acts as resource to the cardio-respiratory department.
The RRT utilizes a multidisciplinary and collaborative team approach dedicated to the principles of patient and family centered care.

Graduate from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program 2.
Current General Certificate of Registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario (CRTO) and in good standing with College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario 3.
Successful completion of the Canadian Board of Respiratory Care (CBRC) exam 4.
Valid BCLS and ACLS certifications 5.
Valid NRP certification 6.
Experience in respiratory rehabilitation; invasive and non-invasive ventilation and oxygen therapy and the application of the ADP forms with The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care 7.
Recent experience in Adult Respiratory Care in advanced airway secretion clearance techniques and difficult airway management within the last 3 years.

Recent experience within an adult critical care setting within the last 3 years 9.
Recent experience in Neonatal airway management and pediatric airway management within the last 3 years 10.
Demonstrated proficiency in adult oral endotracheal intubation, adult arterial blood gas sampling, and adult tracheostomy management and care 11.
Demonstrated knowledge of the respiratory care, support and critical care management of adult critical care patients 12.
Demonstrated knowledge and maintenance of respiratory, resuscitation and anesthesia related equipment 13.
Demonstrated leadership and coordinator skills in a fast paced environment 14.
Demonstrated creativity and innovation in the delivery of patient care 15.
Demonstrated excellent skills in communication, organization and interaction with multiple health care team members and an understanding of other programs within HHS 16.
Demonstrated commitment to family centered care 17.
Ability to provide respiratory therapy assessments and related education for patients, caregivers, allied health professionals and physicians 18.
Post graduate education/certification in Asthma Education and/or COPD 19.
Post graduate education/certification in Intensive Smoking Cessation preferred
