The Casual Mental Health Worker at Rock Bay Landing provides a range of shelter services, including crisis response, co-planning, assistance with daily physical and emotional supports, accepting and making referrals, registering, orienting, and advocating for clients who are experiencing homelessness, while working in a consistently fast-paced, high-acuity, low-barrier shelter environment. The Mental Health Worker collaborates with the larger Victoria Cool Aid Society (VCAS) team and engages with external organizations and professionals to support client needs.
Qualifications
- Education
- Diploma in a related Human or Social Services field. Experience
- At least two (2) years of experience working in a related environment or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Direct experience in the community social services sector with a working knowledge of community support agencies and resources is preferred.
Requirements
- Emergency First Aid with CPR Level C.
- Complete the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check. - “Naloxone 101” course completion is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge/familiarity with related resources such as health and mental health systems and related agencies, income assistance system, and addiction support agencies.
- Ability and willingness to wear Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) when required to do so.
- Demonstrated suitability to work with adults facing multiple barriers and presenting challenging behaviours in a diverse environment.

- Hourly Wage Rate: $30.18 - $33.49. for day shifts and $32.18 - $35.49 for all night shifts. Plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation and statutory time.
- Work Locations: 535 Ellice St - Rock Bay Landing.
- Work Days & Shift Times: As needed and dependent on your availability. Most shifts are 10 to 12 hours in length.
- Weekly Hours: Varies on availability.
