Job Description
- GENERAL STATEMENT Under the supervision of the Senior Laboratory Technologist assists in the preparation of material and equipment for Laboratory classes. Assist with laboratory safety and other duties similar in scope and complexity. TYPICAL DUTIES
- Assists in the preparation of chemical solutions by measuring and mixing pre-determined quantities of ingredients. Solutions used by students and faculty in laboratory classes;
- Assists in setting up of biological displays and equipment used in laboratory classes by students and faculty following instructions provided;
- Assists in the restocking of consumables between classes and in the dismantling of laboratory setup following completion of laboratory;
- Assists in maintaining an organized and safe learning and working environment. Involves following instructions on the proper use and storage of chemicals, equipment, and organization of work/laboratory areas;
- Assists in maintenance of preserved/living plant and animal specimens. This may involve following a schedule and instructions for planting and watering of plants in laboratory classes;
- Performs other related duties similar in scope and complexity.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 plus completion of one year of a technology diploma in applied chemistry and biology, or equivalent with one year relevant practical experience. Ability to work effectively with others.
