Requires a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, graduation from a Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Management program, and five years of experience as a Registered Nurse. Must hold a BLS certificate, wound care clinician certification, and be registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan.

The Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOC) provides specialized nursing services to patients who may have developed or have a disorder in the genitourinary, gastrointestinal, and/or integumentary systems. They provide specialized holistic assessment and management as an inter-professional team member and participate in professional development, research activities, knowledge translation, and system-level thinking. They provide counselling and education for patients, both independently and in collaboration with the health care team. In consultation with physicians, community counterparts and other health care professionals, they use best practice and guidelines developed by Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Canada (NSWOCC) to ensure patients are accessing appropriate care to achieve the desired outcomes.
