Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for an Occupational Therapist to join the Long Term Care team at Hilltop House in Squamish, BC.

As an Occupational Therapist with VCH you will: Provide occupational therapy services to clients to achieve quality client focused care and enable clients to develop healthy patterns of occupations.

Identify and assess client’s occupational performance issues utilizing an evidence-based approach.

Plan and implement goal directed services, and evaluate the effectiveness of the service.

Prepare and maintain records.

Contribute to the organization and delivery of occupational therapy services, and participate in departmental/program quality assurance initiatives, meetings, research, and education.

ABOUT HILLTOP HOUSEHilltop House is located in Squamish, BC, approximately one hour north of the Vancouver lower mainland and accessible on the scenic Sea to Sky highway.

The area hosts an abundance of recreational activities such as mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing and kayaking, as well as a growing arts and culture scene.

Hilltop House is an 86-bed long term care facility for seniors with complex needs.

It provides home-like care for its permanent residents, as well as respite care, a community bathing program and adult day care for seniors.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Degree in Occupational Therapy plus two (2) years’ recent related experience and or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current full registration as an Occupational Therapist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Basic knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice related to designated clinical area. Broad knowledge of occupational therapy standardized tests and measures. Broad knowledge of occupational therapy theory and practice within a client and family centred model of care. Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care. Demonstrated ability to function as a team member. Demonstrated ability to teach and empower clients to assume control over their health. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and clients both one-on-one and in groups. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation. Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others in a complex health care environment. Demonstrated ability to recognize when referral to another health care professional is required. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Skilled in the use of equipment, and in the techniques appropriate for occupational therapy treatment. Basic computer literacy. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
