The Hearing Screener conducts computerized hearing tests on newborn infants and documents the results in patient charts. They are also responsible for monitoring equipment, communicating results to families, and promoting awareness of hearing loss.
Requires completion of the BC Early Hearing Screening Program and one year of recent related experience. Candidates must possess medical terminology knowledge and the ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.

Reporting to the Clinical Practice Leader, Speech Language Pathology and/or Audiology, the Hearing Screener conducts hearing screening tests on newborn infants. The Hearing Screener identifies infants for screening based on pre-set criteria set by the Early Hearing Program, conducts screening using computerized hearing screening equipment, monitors and troubleshoots computerized hearing screening equipment, reviews, edits and disseminates patient materials, documents and communicates results. In addition, this position promotes awareness of hearing loss. The Hearing Screener works cooperatively with families, professionals, agencies and community members to facilitate a team approach in addressing the hearing-related needs of newborns and their families.
Qualifications: Education and Experience
Completion of BC Early Hearing Screening Program plus one (1) year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m. Knowledge of medical terminology Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to deal with others effectively. Ability to organize work. Ability to operate related equipment. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
