The Nurse Practitioner will lead the provision of comprehensive pediatric services in the Oncology clinic, managing both inpatient and outpatient activities. They will work collaboratively with the interprofessional team to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Candidates must have a Master's of Nursing and current registration in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario, along with three years of recent clinical experience in pediatric oncology. Additional certifications in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support are required.

Position Overview: Working as a collaborative member of the interprofessional team, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) functions in an expanded role demonstrating a high level autonomy and expert skill to formulate clinical decisions and appropriately manage inpatient and outpatient activity for paediatric patients in oncology care. Kids Oncology Clinic: The NP leads the provision of comprehensive paediatric services in the Oncology clinic. As a satellite clinic of the Paediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO), the clinic provides care closer to home for children diagnosed with cancer. The NP works with the interprofessional team to provide assessments, coordination, and management of treatments for patients in the clinic as well as recommendations in the inpatient paediatric unit. The NP provides ongoing education and support to the interprofessional team and leads quality improvement projects. The NP will: Practice in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act, the Practice Standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and standards set out for the Nurse Practitioner Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the needs of patients in collaboration with the interprofessional team Perform patient assessments, medical history, physical, and psychosocial assessments Treat and prescribe within the scope of Registered Nurse, Extended Class, while adhering to evidence-based practice Order and interpret diagnostic tests and reports Develop and monitor care plans with patients/families, inpatient unit, the interprofessional team, and community partner Arrange specialist referrals and appointments Take accountability and responsibility for making referrals to various clinical resources, liaising between hospital, specialists, and community services as the patient’s advocate Ensure linkages and collaborative transitions of care Lead quality improvement activities Assist with clinic flow and booking procedures Requirements: Masters of Nursing Current Registration in the Extended Class with the College of Nurses of Ontario 3 years recent clinical work experience with paediatric oncology Must have professional liability protection (RNAO or equivalent) Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification required Current Paediatric Advanced Life Support certification required Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment and to assess situations and problems efficiently and effectively Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to work well within an interprofessional team and to foster effective working relationships Proven good attendance record with capability of maintaining this same standard Demonstrates values consistent with SHN’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health and Safety policy and legislation Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community Excellent work performance Asset APHON chemotherapy course Membership in professional organizations preferred Ability to speak another language This opportunity is posted to support the recruitment of an existing vacant position.
