The Public Health Nurse is accountable for coordinating public health activities to control and prevent communicable diseases, including surveillance and reporting responsibilities as mandated by various health regulations and directives. This role involves coordinating the prevention, planning, and implementation of Communicable Disease Control services, conducting investigations, and following up on reportable and non-reportable communicable diseases.
Candidates must possess a minimum of two years of recent relevant experience in public health nursing and hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), along with required course credits in community and public health nursing. Applicants must also be registered or eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) and possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.

The Communicable Disease Control Public Health Nurse works under the direction of the designated Manager or supervisor and is a delegate of the local Medical Health Officer(s) and is accountable for the coordination of public health activities to control and prevent communicable diseases, including surveillance and reporting responsibilities, as outlined in The Public Health Officers Regulations, in addition to The Public Health Act, 1994 and The Disease Control Regulations and Saskatchewan Health directives and policies and other applicable federal legislation. They will coordinate the prevention, planning, and implementation of Communicable Disease Control (CDC) services within the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The CDC PHN conducts investigations and the related follow up of reportable and non-reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted diseases, on a day-to-day basis working collaboratively with many internal and external health care professionals/agencies.
