Job Description

The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP) is an advanced practice nurse with knowledge & skills gained through additional education and experience specializing in pediatrics. The PNP blends an in-depth knowledge of advanced health assessment & diagnosis, therapeutic management with the legal authority & autonomy to order diagnostic tests, prescribe pharmaceuticals & perform specific procedures in the management & treatment of common acute pediatric illnesses & stable chronic conditions. The PNP practices within a framework of evidence-based practice, health promotion, & disease & injury prevention. The practice involves building partnerships with individuals/families, & communities, including supporting inter-professional collaboration & continuous improvements through evaluative processes/projects. The PNP will be based out of the Pediatric Inpatient Department but will also function in outpatient & community settings.

Experience 5 years General Nursing Experience Three (3) full-time years recent experience working in a pediatric area Education Master's Degree in Nursing, with Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Designation Licenses Valid Class 5 driver's license Other Education and Training Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation HCP Certificate (CPR-HCP) Competencies Advanced - Conflict resolution skills Knowledge and Abilities Demonstrates communication verbal/nonverbal to build relationships Knowledge in research processes and program evaluation Diagnostic intervention skills working to the scope of practice of RN (NP) role Health assessment skills working to the scope of practice of the RN (NP) role Demonstrates capacity to plan, implement and evaluate multiple assessments Knowledge of palliative care and end of life care strategies Adaptability for competing/changing patient priorities, situations, environment Therapeutic intervention skills working to the scope of practice of RN (NP) role Demonstrates leadership, confidence and autonomy in the RN(NP) role Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional development Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment in acute/ambulatory care Knowledge in leadership strategies Knowledge in complex pediatric illnesses and chronic conditions Demonstrates ability to implement coordinated, comprehensive care.
