Overview
Collect blood and other specimens and label them according to Fraser Health policies. Assist with fine needle aspiration collections by providing clerical support. Prepare specimens for analysis (centrifuge, aliquot, distribute by priority) including Microbiology, Pathology, and Cytology specimens and assist with gross exams. Stain, mount, and label slides. Perform clerical duties including computer data entry for patient information and tests. Communicate test results to designated parties and handle inquiries from health team members. Clean, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment and perform temperature checks on fridges, incubators, autoclaves, and water baths. Prepare reagents, media, and specimen collection materials; receive, store, and ship specimens and materials. Prepare, handle, and transport specimens for preanalytical and post-analytical storage and discard specimens per accepted protocols. Load specimens for analysis on barcode-enhanced automated and semi-automated equipment. Perform laboratory tests such as urine dipsticks and glucose tests; perform simple tests such as occult blood and pregnancy tests; plate microbiology specimens. Maintain a clean and safe work area and stock adequate supplies. Assist with inventory counting and notify staff of inventory levels. Schedule and book appointments and enter/verify patient registration information. Provide assistance as required by performing ECG testing (attach electrodes and operate equipment per standard procedures). Perform other related duties as assigned
