Overview
Assist in delivery of patient care for an assigned inpatient area of the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse, Registered Psychiatric Nurse, or designate. Maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment for patients and staff. Provide personal care (bathing/showers, grooming, dressing, oral hygiene, toileting, skin care as applicable). Assist with meals and feeding to ensure dietary needs are met. Perform applicable nursing care functions including knowing Kardex, risk triggers, signature behaviors, and unit milieu care plans. Communicate, report, and record patient observations in the patient chart, including behaviors of concern and aggression/violence. Respond to call bells/alarms and emergent situations by alerting the appropriate team member and assisting per unit/program guidelines. Observe and monitor patient progress and behavioral changes; report significant discomfort/pain, complaints, and accidents. Use mechanical aides to transport and assist with positioning, lifting, and transferring patients using established safety techniques. Handle workplace hazardous materials according to procedures and report incidents, equipment problems, and potential safety issues. Maintain supplies in utility areas and patient areas; check supply sheets and notify the Unit Clerk of depleting stock. Prepare rooms for discharge cleaning/next patient, including linen handling and seclusion room strong sheets support. Participate in team discussions, annual core training competencies, meetings, safety huddles, and patient community meetings. Transport items (drugs, supplies, specimens) as required by department schedules. Perform related clerical duties such as answering telephones and filing. Complete routine security checks, search/escort patients, and support safe work practices across security levels and program areas/grounds. Provide physical, emotional, and psychological nursing care to patients in seclusion, including hygiene and active listening/empathy
