Overview
Perform clerical functions related to the preparation, retrieval, distribution and maintenance of health records. Handle health record duties related to admissions and discharge (retrieval/delivery, signing in/out, sorting and distributing medical reports). Check patient charts for accuracy and completeness in accordance with established policies, standards and guidelines. Sort, photocopy and distribute reports and records as required/directed. File inpatient, outpatient, emergency and day care visits and associated loose medical reports. Retrieve, deliver, and sign out patient health records for various patient care areas as requested/directed. Answer inquiries regarding patient charts in accordance with established policies, standards and guidelines. Release patient information to authorized requestors as required/directed (or refer to Health Records Administrator as required). Maintain incomplete chart area for physicians and ensure chart completion within a set time frame. Pull designated cases for review by various committees as requested/directed. Locate missing charts as requested/directed. Order, receive and obtain department supplies in accordance with established procedures. Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and provide input/feedback to the Manager. Assist with orienting new staff by demonstrating work procedures and use of equipment. Perform other related duties as assigned
