About the role

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide psychiatric consultative services, manage behavioral health emergencies, and develop treatment plans for patients. They will also coordinate care, manage a narcotic addiction program, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.

1.

Responds to psychiatric emergencies utilizing training in management of aggressive behaviors.

Demonstrates skills and takes initiative in preventing situations from escalating by recognizing potential at-risk situations and de-escalating patients.

2.

Provides psychoeducational and medication instruction(s) to patients and families, documenting appropriately.

Acts as patient advocate and informs patients and families of available community and government resources.

3.

Establishes and maintains good rapport and working relationships with colleagues in various settings in order to foster the communication necessary for the delivery of quality patient care.

Serves as a psychiatric clinical resource and acts as a liaison between other programs and providers.

4.

Participates in quality improvement initiatives, utilization management activities, clinical and administrative staff meetings, and assigned committees.

Participates in training and development activities for the purpose of professional growth and skill enhancement.

Assess and manages behavioral health patients.

Provides a leadership role in behavioral health-related emergencies in the EC and inpatient hospital setting.

Providing psychiatric consultative services to inpatients at Cape Cod Hospital in conjunction with the Psychiatry Department.

Develops and manages a narcotic addiction program to better identify and treat patients in our community with issues of chronic opiate habituation.

Follows clinical and administrative policies and procedures.

10.

Maintains patient rights and confidentiality.

Perform advanced diagnostic assessments to identify complex psychiatric and behavioral health conditions, informing individualized treatment plans.

Clearly summarize and communicate pertinent clinical findings in both verbal and written formats to support interdisciplinary care and accurate medical record documentation.

Provide comprehensive case management services, including care coordination, discharge planning, and connection to community resources.

Respond to psychiatric crises using evidence-based crisis intervention techniques to ensure patient and staff safety and stabilize acute situations.

Apply thorough knowledge of psychopharmacology to support medication management, including understanding indications, side effects, and potential interactions.

Conduct assessments for substance use disorders and implement appropriate treatment interventions based on current best practices in addiction medicine.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the position, department and hospital as described in the scope of service.

Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.

Challenges current working practices, identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management.

Nurse Practitioner, Psych – Grade PSY, Job Code - 20023 · (MSN) - A Master of Science in Nursing or higher · (CNP) - Currently licensed as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts · Minimum of one year of experience · (De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 30 days, offered within) · (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within) · (DEA) – US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing) Physician Assistant, Psych – Grade PSY, Job Code – 20069 · (MPAS) - Masters from a program accredited by the ARC-PA · (PA) - Currently licensed as a Physician’s Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts · Minimum of one year of experience · (De-escalation) - Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 30 days, offered within) · (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within) · (DEA) – US Department of Justice DEA Registration (required if prescribing)

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Nursing or a Physician Assistant program and be licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A minimum of one year of experience is required, along with BLS and De-escalation certifications.
