About the role

The Registered Practical Nurse provides peri-operative nursing care within the operating room environment. They are responsible for interpreting clinical data and making critical decisions to ensure high-quality patient care.

The Registered Practical Nurse participates in providing peri-operative nursing care in accordance with the job description and competencies for Registered Practical Nurses in the Operating Room at Hamilton Health Sciences

1.Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse 2.

Perioperative certificate or equivalent Operating Room experience.

3.

Current certificate and or has completed equivalent community college courses 4.

Current Heart and Stroke Foundation course in CPR or equivalent 5.

Recent within (2 years) relevant Operating Room experience in a tertiary care facility 6.

Demonstrated skill and ability in site specific services.

7.

Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills 8.

Demonstrates commitment to the principles of professional practice 9.

Demonstrates judgment in carrying out his or her role or function and is responsible and accountable for acting on the interpretation of data 10.

Demonstrates critical-thinking and decision-making in assessment and problem identifications 11.

Demonstrates ongoing personal professional education and development

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a perioperative certificate or equivalent experience. Recent experience within a tertiary care facility and current CPR certification are also required.
