As a member of the Surgery team, the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is responsible for enhancing the care of surgical patients. As an experienced perioperative registered nurse, with specialized education, knowledge and skills, they practice in collaboration with and under the direction of the surgeon. Clinical expertise is leveraged in pre, intra and post-operative phases of the surgical experience. Key to this role is maintaining excellence in nursing practice and being accountable to the patient’s safety, participation in education and identification of opportunities for quality improvements. The RNFA is positioned to support the organization’s strategic plan, mission and vision for better access, quality and sustainability of surgical services. The RNFA will participate in program and hospital-wide initiatives to create better health care for all.

Candidates must hold an RNFA certification, a Perioperative Nursing certificate, and ACLS certification, along with current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. A minimum of 5 years of nursing expertise in obstetrical or perioperative settings is required.
