About the role

The Physiatrist will provide inpatient stroke rehabilitation, hospital-based consultations for complex medical needs, and outpatient community reintegration services. The role involves working within an interdisciplinary team to manage patient recovery and functional outcomes.

Job Summary

Fraser Health is seeking a Physiatrist to join the Fraser Health Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) team.

Focused on Surrey, BC, this is a unique opportunity offering a rich and varied clinical scope across inpatient stroke rehabilitation, hospital consultation, and outpatient community reintegration - with an optional avenue for private practice with a local neurology group.

This position encompasses three integrated clinical components: 1.

Inpatient Stroke Rehabilitation - Laurel Place 20-bed dedicated inpatient stroke rehabilitation unit at Laurel Place.

Family Practice MRP coverage and call.

Role is Consultative and Directive Care.

Small stipend to help support local administration on site in collaboration with unit manager.

Comprehensive interdisciplinary team including nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social work, and recreation therapy.

Consultation Service - Surrey Memorial Hospital Inpatient PM&R consultation service at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH), a major regional hospital and Level II trauma centre.

Broad scope of consultations including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, and complex medical rehabilitation needs.

Access to full diagnostic and subspecialty services including neurology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and intensive care.

Outpatient Community Reintegration Clinic - Surrey Structured hospital-based outpatient clinic serving patients transitioning from inpatient rehabilitation back into the community.

Focus on functional recovery, adaptive equipment, spasticity management, and return-to-work or daily activities.

Integration with hospital-based outpatient allied health providers.

Flexible half-day clinic structure.

No overhead is associated with this clinic.

OPTIONAL - PRIVATE PRACTICE OPPORTUNITY In addition to the core salaried/sessional position, there is an opportunity to join a private neurology group practice in Surrey.

This collaboration offers: Independent electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies (NCS) clinic sessions.

Musculoskeletal and neurorehabilitation consultations in a private setting.

Flexible scheduling integrated around your public sector commitments.

Established referral base and administrative infrastructure already in place.

Significant income supplementation for the right candidate.

Overhead would be determined with the Neurology group by the candidate.

Compensation Inpatient Rehabilitation (Laurel Place) Fee for Service/ Stipend.

Consultation Service (SMH) Fee for Service.

Outpatient Reintegration Clinic Fee for Service.

Private Practice (Optional) Fee for Service - Independent.

Qualifications

Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation - Required. Current or eligible registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC). Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) membership. Experience in stroke rehabilitation, neurorehabilitation, or general PM&R - preferred. EMG/NCS competency an asset, particularly for private practice component. Strong commitment to interdisciplinary collaborative care. International Medical Graduates with FRCPC equivalence are encouraged to apply; we support the credentialing process. Requirements

Candidates must hold a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation and be eligible for registration with the CPSBC. Experience in neurorehabilitation and stroke care is preferred, along with a strong commitment to collaborative interdisciplinary practice.
