Job Summary The University of British Columbia Centre for Disease Control, the academic arm of the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC), is seeking a Research Assistant to support tuberculosis (TB) research studies. The position will be based in the provincial TB clinic in Vancouver, BC. This position will be 0.8FTE at 30 hours a week. Criminal record checks will be required for this position.

Organizational Status The Research Assistant will report directly to the Evaluation Lead of Provincial Tuberculosis (TB) Services for scientific matters, and to the Research Manager of the BCCDC Clinical Prevention Services operationally. The Research Assistant will work collaboratively with other research team members, including research coordinators/assistants, graduate students, clinical residents, and post-doctoral fellows.

Work Performed Assist with the operation of tuberculosis research studies by performing assigned tasks following complex protocols; tasks may include, but are not limited to: Recruiting and screening participants Obtaining informed consent Scheduling study follow-up visits Conducting data collection (e.g., interviews, surveys, medical chart reviews, etc.) Arranging or conducting sample collection on participants, if required Administering honorarium payments to participants Prepare, maintain, review and organize study documentations to ensure compliance with protocols and regulatory requirements Communicate with partnering health care professionals to ensure accurate implementation of research protocols and troubleshoot problems in daily operations. Report to Principal Investigators any issues within the procedure, and provide support to resolve the issues Participate in study-specific training and meeting as required Assist with preparing reports on research progress as required Carry out other related duties as assigned. Consequence of Error/Judgement Work may involve simple techniques and methods requiring knowledge and/or procedures that are readily acquired and used generally in repetitive or simple applications, requiring little judgment; the nature of work is routine and clearly defined; all problems are referred to supervisor

Supervision Received Works under direct supervision in accordance with detailed oral or written instructions; routine duties are carried out under general supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with clinical trials is preferred Experience working within a fast-paced clinic setting is preferred Excellent organization skills Ability to work efficiently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail Ability to exercise confidentiality, tact and discretion Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Computing proficiency in MS Office applications Prior knowledge of tuberculosis is an asset Proficiency in a second language is an asset

Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma with at least two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include experience with clinical trials and working in a fast-paced clinic setting.
