About the role

The Resident Care Attendant provides direct personal care to residents, including bathing, feeding, and assisting with mobility while monitoring for changes in health status. They collaborate with the nursing team to implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.

  • Type: Temporary, Full Time The Opportunity The Resident Care Attendant reporting to the Director of Care and/or Resident Care Manager ensures and supports the collaboration and evaluation of the resident care services in accordance with applicable provincial standards, guidelines, and regulations to ensure that the highest standard of resident care is delivered and maintained at all times. What You Will Do Observe residents for any changes in resident status when tub bathing, washing, cleaning, dressing, and changing residents. Report any changes in the resident’s condition to the Nurse as soon as possible. Participate in the development of the Nursing Care Plan (NCP) by sharing observations, information and knowledge of the needs and strengths of the residents. Share this information with other members of the nursing team and the health care team (Collaborative Care Model) so that the plan addresses the resident’s individual needs in a holistic way (Philosophy of Caring/Wellness Model). Bath, shower, and wash residents according to the NCP to promote resident personal comfort and well-being according to strict water temperature control procedures. Transfer/assist with resident transfers in and out of bed, to and from wheelchair, commode, or toilet, using appropriate Engineering Controls and following AgeCare Life Policies (Ceiling Lifts, Mechanical Lifts) and Personal Protective Equipment Controls (Transfer Belt). Feed/assist with feeding residents during meals and nourishment/snack times. Refer to document located in the Dining room to ensure he/she serves the appropriate diet to each resident. Provide routine treatments (e.g. skin creams, bowel protocols) and care procedures to residents, under the direction of the Nurse. Assist residents to travel about the facility. Observe and report and changes in the condition of the residents to the Nurse using the guidelines outlined in the Collaborative Care Model. Monitor resident’s activities of daily living. Monitor the activities of the residents and provide appropriate action when problems or disputes occur. Participate in the evaluation of the care provided to clients by contributing to the nursing team and inter-disciplinary resident care conferences What You Will Bring Registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry. Minimum HCA Provincial Certification required. Must be fluent in to perform work in English, both orally and in writing. At least 5 years’ experience in as HCA (or other Nursing designation) in continuing care setting, demonstration of leadership abilities with strengths in supervision, leadership, judgment, and interpersonal skills. Experience in caring for Residents with Dementia. Ability to perform tasks that are necessary for the position, e.g. lifting/transferring clients.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a minimum HCA Provincial Certification and be registered with the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a continuing care setting and proficiency in English are required.
