In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reports to the Unit Supervisor, Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics or designate. Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor and Cytogeneticist, conducts a variety of diagnostic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of Cytogenetic conditions.
Current Clinical Genetics or Cytogenetics Technologist certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS), or applicable certification recognized under the CAMLPR framework..
Bachelor of Science in a related discipline and one year of recent related cytogenetic experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience..
Ability to manage workload and establish clinical priorities..
Effective verbal and written communication skills..
Ability to work effectively with co-workers, hospital and medical staff, and patients..
Knowledge of high-resolution microscopic analysis, photomicroscopy, and relevant cytogenetics equipment and procedures..
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
