About the role

The speech-language pathologist evaluates and treats children with speech and language delays within a multidisciplinary team. They develop intervention plans, conduct early stimulation activities, and collaborate with families and community stakeholders across the Ungava Coast.

La personne fait partie de l’équipe du CLSC, travaille directement avec les enfants et leurs familles et pourrait être appelée à intervenir dans les différents milieux de vie de l’enfant (domicile, garderie, école). Elle est basée à Kuujjuaq mais sera appelée à se déplacer dans les communautés avoisinantes pour faire les évaluations, élaborer les plans de traitement et encadrer des activités de stimulations avec les membres de l’équipe sur place. Dans un contexte multidisciplinaire, elle effectue des évaluations et intervient principalement auprès d’enfant 0-5 ans présentant des indices de retards du langage, mais peut être appelée à répondre aux besoins de d’autres clientèles pour des besoins ponctuels.

Fonctions

Évalue les fonctions du langage, de la voix et de la parole; Détermine un plan de traitement et d’intervention et en assure la mise en œuvre dans le but d’améliorer ou de rétablir la communication; Assure le suivi du plan de traitement dans le volet orthophoniste Participe avec l’équipe au dépistage des retards de développement et à l’accompagnement des enfants en collaboration avec les familles et les milieux de garde; Organise des activités de stimulation et intervention précoce en individuel et en situation de groupe; Travaille de concert avec les divers intervenants de la communauté; Travaille en équipe multidisciplinaire; Développe du matériel écrit de sensibilisation et d’information sur le développement de l’enfant; Élabore un plan d’intervention en tenant compte des besoins prioritaires, des forces de l’enfant, de l’environnement et des attentes des parents;

The person is part of the CLSC team, works directly with the children and their families and could be asked to intervene in the different environments of the child (home, daycares, schools, etc). They are based out of Kuujjuaq but will be asked to travel to the other surrounding communities to do the evaluations and elaborate treatment plans and lead stimulation activities with the team members in the communities. In a multidisciplinary context, they evaluate and intervene mainly with children ages 0-17 years old with speech delays but could also be asked to work with other clienteles for punctual needs.

Functions

Evaluates the functions of language, voice and speech; Determines a treatment and intervention plan and ensures its implementation in order to improve or restore communication; Participate with the team in screening for developmental delays and in supporting children in collaboration with families and childcare centers; Organizes early stimulation activities and early intervention in individual and group situations; Works in concert with the various stakeholders in the community; Develop written awareness and information material on child development; Participate in the revision of intervention plans and programs in collaboration with the other members of the Early Action Program team taking into account the priority needs, the child's strengths, the environment and the expectations of the parents;

Requirements

  • Doit détenir une maîtrise en orthophonie; Doit être membre de l’Ordre professionnel des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec; Minimum de deux ans d’expérience clinique dans le développement des enfants; Connaissance du développement de l’enfant 0-5 ans et des outils de dépistage et d’évaluation; Connaissance des troubles neuro-développementaux; Bilinguisme anglais français requis, à l'oral et à l'écrit, connaissance de l’Inuktitut sera un atout; Expérience en régions éloignées sera un atout; Connaissance de la culture et des valeurs inuit sera un atout; Capacité à travailler de concert avec les divers intervenants de la communauté; Capacité à faire de l’enseignement et donner de la formation auprès des intervenants locaux; Disponible pour se déplacer dans les communautés de la Côte de l’Ungava; Doit posséder un permis de conduire valide. ***************************
  • Must have a master's degree in speech therapy; Must be a member of the Professional Order of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists of Quebec; Minimum of two years of clinical experience in child development; Knowledge of the development of children 0-7 years old and of screening and assessment tools; Knowledge of neurodevelopmental disorders; Organise des activités de stimulation et intervention précoce en individuel et en situation de groupe; French and English bilingualism required both oral and written, knowledge of Inuktitut will be an asset; Experience in remote areas will be an asset; Knowledge of Inuit culture and values ​​will be an asset; Ability to work in concert with the various stakeholders in the community; Ability to teach and provide training to local stakeholders; Available to travel to the communities of the Ungava Coast; Must have a valid driver's license.
