Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reports to the Manager or designate. Plans and provides direct nursing care to patients/residents in the hospital or in the community in accordance with the unit/program philosophy, competency guidelines, policies, and the BCCNM Standards for Nursing Practice in British Columbia.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training And Experience Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant. Recent experience in acute medical/surgical nursing, and completion of a basic arrhythmia interpretation course, or an equivalent combination of education, skills and training. Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize assigned workload and set priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability in arrhythmia interpretation as evidenced by successful completion of a VIHA Basic Arrhythmia course within the past year, or a mark of 75% on the VIHA ECG Challenge Exam.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts, including co-workers, physicians, community agency representatives, patients, residents and families.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Requirements

Registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing registered nurse.

Recent experience in acute medical or surgical nursing.

Completion of a basic arrhythmia interpretation course or equivalent education, skills, and training.

Demonstrated arrhythmia interpretation ability through a recent VIHA Basic Arrhythmia course or a qualifying VIHA ECG Challenge Exam result.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to organize workload, prioritize tasks, and perform the physical duties of the position
