About the role

The Licensed Practical Nurse works collaboratively with Registered Nurses to provide direct patient care, including assessing, planning, and evaluating interventions. They also participate in care conferences, assist with staff orientation, and perform necessary clerical duties.

minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.

In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Salary Details The salary range for this position is CAD $32.84/Hr. - CAD $41.35/Hr.

Job Summary Come work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) on the Endoscopy Clinic team at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC.

Within the context of a patient and family-centred framework and continuum based care model and in accordance with the established standards of professional practice and the vision and values of the organization, works collaboratively with the Registered Nurse in direct patient care activities such as assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating interventions and coordinating health services.

Participate in a variety of meetings including care conferences and assists with the orientation of new staff and students as required.

Responds to and reports incidents according to establish procedures and performs clerical duties as needed.This work is framed within VCH’s commitments to our pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).. Completion of recognized post-basic education in gastroenterology/GI endoscopy nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to common diagnosis specific to the designated patient group. Demonstrated skill in performing LPN scope of practice and standards of care relevant to designated patient population.. General knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice, Harm Reduction approach and Strengths-based care. Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to perform nursing assessments and interventions. Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical judgments to provide safe ethical patient care. Demonstrated ability to recognize potential complications and care issues. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated competency and ability in correct usage of equipment. Demonstrated ability to document patient care on appropriate systems/forms. Demonstrated ability to provide safe and appropriate telephone consultations and document related discussions and patient care. Demonstrated skills in patient/family centered care planning, patient/family engagement and education and therapeutic communication. Demonstrated current basic cardiac life support. Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
