The Pharmacy Technician assists pharmacists in the accurate dispensing of prescriptions and the preparation of extemporaneous products. They are also responsible for managing pharmacy inventory, operating blister packaging machinery, and maintaining high standards of client relations.

Job Description

Union: OPSEU # of Vacancies: 3 New or Replacement: New Site: Toronto Western Hospital, Shoppers Drug Mart (with possibility of cross coverage at Toronto General and Princess Margaret Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy) Department: Outpatient Pharmacy Reports to: Manager Wage Range: $32.32 - $37.26 (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements) Hours: Varies Status: Casual

Position Summary

As an integral member of the Pharmacy Services Outpatient Pharmacy Operations team, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for the following duties:

Duties

Working in conjunction with pharmacists in maintaining high standards of client relations Assisting pharmacists in accurately and efficiently performing all technical aspects relating to prescription dispensing responsibilities Preparing or compounding extemporaneous products using appropriate techniques under supervision of a pharmacist Performing activities relating to the maintenance and operation of Outpatient Pharmacy services Handling inventory and supplies and managing operations of blister packaging automation: and performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Qualifications

Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program at an accredited college or recognized equivalent required Registration as a Pharmacy Technician (Part A) in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists required Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities Excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills Ability to work under minimal supervision and to manage competing priorities/deadlines Two years practical and related experience preferred Previous hospital experience with unit dose system and intravenous admixture service, preferred Ability to learn and troubleshoot changing technologies/machinery (e.g. automated blister packaging machine) Excellent organizational and time management skills Ability to work variable shifts Certificate of competency from the Pharmacy Examination Board of Canada, preferred Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team preferred Manual billings, out of province billings and specialty medications related billing preferred Experience/working knowledge of Delta (Health Watch), Kroll and Point of Sales System preferred IV Compounding experience an asset
