Indigenous Intake and Transition Support Nurse - Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)

Qualifications

• Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Five (5) to seven (7) years recent related experience in the designated clinical program area or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Pursuant to Section 41 of the British Columbia Human Rights Code, preference will be given to individuals who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, Metis). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient and family centered care model. Broad knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for nursing. Demonstrated ability to provide person-centred care to support health and wellness. General knowledge of Trauma and Violence Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care. Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety. Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safe care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations. Demonstrated understanding and in-depth knowledge of First Nations, Inuit, and M�tis Peoples and history. Demonstrated understanding of provincial and federal guiding principles and documents, for example In Plain Sight Report, and Calls to Action, to eliminate Indigenous-specific racism in the health care sector. Demonstrated ability to identify and recognize current health care system gaps and barriers for Indigenous individuals and communities seeking health care through the responsible collection, analysis and use of Indigenous health data. Demonstrated ability to identify and recognize power inequities within the healthcare system associated with ongoing impacts of colonialism. Demonstrated ability to assess patients at risk and knowledge of appropriate acts, e.g., Mental Health Act, Adult Guardianship Act, Public Health Act, Health Care (Consent) and Care Facility (Admission) Act as it relates to the rights and obligations of patients and staff. Knowledge of clinical practice related to treatment and care of the designated patient population. Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated listening and information seeking skills that promotes communication and supports collaborative approaches to problem solving within a multidisciplinary setting. Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities and maintain organization with competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict situations. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system and word processing, spreadsheet, Internet and e-mail software. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
