Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Under the direction of the Manager or designate the LPN practices to full scope as per the Standards of Practice outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), as well as within a client and family-centered care model approach. Working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, the LPN performs assessments, plans, implements and provides personal and nursing care to clients, according to organizational policies, procedures, standards, and unit specific protocols. The scope or extent of the skills that the LPN performs varies according to the predictability of the outcome for a given client population.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training And Experience Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses and current full practicing licensure with the BCCNM. Advanced preparation in the clinical specialty of the assigned area as required by the position:
  • Minor Procedures Clinic - completion of recognized post-basic education in perioperative nursing, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Recent related ambulatory care or perioperative unit experience which includes experience in minor surgical, oncology, and/or medical specialty clinics in an acute care facility.
  • Current CPR certification required. Skills And Abilities

Requirements

Graduation from a recognized Practical Nurses program.

Current full practicing licensure with the BCCNM.

Advanced preparation in the assigned clinical specialty (Minor Procedures Clinic) including completion of recognized post-basic education in perioperative nursing or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Recent related ambulatory care or perioperative unit experience including minor surgical, oncology, and/or medical specialty clinics in an acute care facility.

Current CPR certification.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to deal with others effectively.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to operate related equipment.

Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
