About the role

The Rehabilitation Assistant contributes to the assessment and identification of resident needs while implementing personalized rehabilitation programs. They also maintain rehabilitation equipment and provide guidance to staff regarding resident care protocols.

Kiwanis Nursing Home is a compassionate, resident-centered nursing home dedicated to providing the highest quality of care in a supportive, home-like environment. By joining us, you will be joining approximately 150 other caring and amazing staff members in our 100-bed home in Sussex.

We currently have vacancies for Part Time- Temporary Rehabilitation Assistant.

What we're asking for

  • a. High school graduation or equivalent. b. Successful completion of an approved rehabilitation assistant course or equivalent c. Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, other team members and other health care professionals. d. Demonstrates the ability to use discretion in solutions to issues or problems on how to best provide resident care or services. e. Demonstrates the ability to work without supervision. f. Physically capable of performing assigned duties.
  • Some of what you'll be doing: Rehabilitation Activities Contribute to the assessment and identification of the rehabilitation needs of the residents. Assists in development of treatment plans to meet the resident’s needs such as positioning, mobilizing, feeding and hearing. Implements and participates in personalized rehabilitation programs in collaboration with health care professionals, to enhance and maintain resident’s autonomy. Completes and carries out requisitions of health care professionals. Communicates and provides guidance to staff pertaining to the rehabilitation programs regarding hearing, mobilization, positioning and feeding of residents. With direction from the Rehab LPN modifies and adapts individual treatments in accordance with resident’s status as established by health care professionals. Documents and communicates with health care professionals regarding treatment provided to residents. Communicates progress with residents and/or families regarding rehabilitation programs.

Administrative Duties Maintains inventory and an identification system for equipment related to rehabilitation program.

Maintains rehabilitation equipment.

Communicates with suppliers to obtain quotes regarding rehabilitation equipment.

Participates in meetings such as multidisciplinary team and quality program, by providing information and ensuring follow-up of recommendations.

Other Duties Other related duties as requested by the Case Manager or Director of Nursing.

Flexibility to work all types of shifts (days, evenings, nights) and on a call-in basis; The successful candidate will be required to complete a medical check, vulnerable sector check, and Department of Social Development background check as a condition of employment.
