About the role

The Respiratory Therapist will perform ongoing respiratory care for patients with various illnesses and conduct cardiac diagnostic tests such as ECGs and stress testing. They will also collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to enhance patient quality of life and maintain clinical competence.

Salary Details The salary range for this position is CAD $40.19/Hr. - CAD $50.20/Hr.

As a Respiratory Therapist at Vancouver Coastal Health you will: Perform ongoing respiratory care in an interdisciplinary setting to patients with tracheostomies and/or variety of illnesses/diseases including, but not limited to acute and/or chronic respiratory illnesses or pathologies of the airway.

Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the patient/family by consulting, conferring and collaborating with other health care professionals.

Demonstrate continuous improvement and best practice approach in respiratory practice.

Conduct various cardiac diagnostic tests such as Electrocardiogram (ECG), stress testing and Holter Monitoring for analysis and interpretation by medical staff.

Maintain and advance own clinical competence and participates on committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience Successful completion of the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam. Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists and BC Society of Respiratory Therapists. Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. Completion of additional coursework and clinical training in conduction of ECG, Holter Monitor and Stress Tests. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Broad knowledge of CSRT standards of practice and clinical practice guidelines. Broad knowledge of current respiratory care theory and practices within a patient/family centred model of care. Basic knowledge of research process and methodology. Demonstrated ability to plan and implement care plans. Demonstrated ability to assess patient responses to care, and to respond appropriately. Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, set priorities and deal with conflict. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) and deal effectively with patients and their families, coworkers, physicians, other health care staff, and staff of external agencies. Demonstrated ability to provide leadership through initiative and independence. Demonstrated ability to use the department policy and procedure manual. Demonstrated skill in clinical techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies. Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques. Demonstrated ability to operated equipment including applicable software applications. Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized patient care information system. Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Closing Statement Required skills: Current ACLS, PALS and NRP.Preferred skills: recent related, acute care experience The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections. Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks. Requirements

Candidates must have graduated from an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program and hold the Health Professionals Testing Canada Credentialing Exam certification.
