About the role

Perform medical office assistant and clerical duties including registering patients and scheduling/confirming appointments.

Answer telephones and handle general correspondence.

Maintain records, chart notes, reports, and complete medical billings.

Perform data entry and word processing using graphic and database applications.

Compile and enter statistical information.

Record, transcribe, and type forms and other correspondence.

Balance and check revenue transactions.

Manage medical/surgical supplies and equipment.

Escort patients to examination/treatment rooms and ensure appropriate instruments and supplies are set up.

Attend sensitive examination procedures and treatments and assist with routine measurements (weight, BMI calculations, eye exams, urinalysis).

Clean and sterilize medical equipment and instruments and manage delivery and disposal of supplies and biological/material equipment

Position Summary

Interior Health is seeking a Relief Full-Time Medical Office Assistant to join our team in Kamloops, British Columbia. This position is based at Thompson Park Mall and offers an exciting opportunity to support patient care in a dynamic healthcare environment. Hours of work are rotating days – 08:30 to 16:30 Days Of Work: Mon Tues 1st week, Mon Tues Wed 2nd week Days Off: Sun, Thurs, Fri, Sat, STAT

  • Registering patients – including scheduling and confirming appointments
  • Answering telephones, general correspondence, record keeping, chart notes, reports, medical billings
  • Data entry and word processing, graphic and database applications,
  • Compiling and entering statistical information,
  • Writing correspondence including: recording, transcribing and typing forms
  • Balancing and checking revenue transactions
  • Managing medical/surgical supplies and equipment and other resource material.
  • Escorting patients to examination/treatment rooms and ensuring appropriate instruments, procedure trays or other supplies are set up;
  • Attending sensitive examination procedures and treatments; routine measurements - weight, BMI calculations, eye exams, urinalysis.
  • Cleaning and sterilizing medical equipment and instruments as well as delivery and disposal of supplies, biological, material and equipment What should your application include?

  • Grade 12,
  • Graduation from a Medical Office Assistant course from an accredited Community College, plus
  • Two years recent related experience in a health care setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s License as required
  • Completion of an administered 5 minute typing certificate of 40wpm in the last 24 months from an approved institution (non-supervised tests are not accepted).

Requirements

Graduation from a Medical Office Assistant course from an accredited Community College.

Two years recent related experience in a health care setting (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).

Valid BC Driver’s License as required.

Completion of an administered 5-minute typing certificate of 40 WPM in the last 24 months from an approved institution (non-supervised tests not accepted).
