Provide advanced clinical practice and interventions for clients and their caregivers/families experiencing mental health problems.
Conduct assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach, consultation, and referral within a rehabilitation/recovery focused model.
Deliver short-term counselling and solution-focused counselling.
Provide group-based skill-building therapeutic interventions.
Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Perform crisis intervention, stabilization, and de-escalation as needed.
Complete psychiatric and suicide/homicide risk assessments and apply appropriate crisis response techniques.
Support treatment methodologies for mental health and alcohol and drug addiction issues.
Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders verbally and in writing.
Travel between multiple sites as required and ensure transportation meets operational requirements

Working within the organization s framework and standards, and a rehabilitation/recovery focused model, , as a member of a interdisciplinary treatment team with a focus on short-term counselling, the Mental Health Clinician, provides advanced clinical practice and interventions relating to assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or consultation, and referral for clients and their caregivers/families experiencing mental health problems. Travel may be a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirement s of the Vancouver Island Health Authority
Master’s degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
Three (3) years recent related experience, including two (2) years in areas requiring frequent crisis intervention and risk assessment (e.g., policing, crisis counseling, paramedic or similar).
Knowledge of mental health and alcohol/drug addiction issues, including psychiatric and suicide/homicide risk assessments.
Significant knowledge of available programs and services and their interrelationships.
Knowledge of applicable legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act and Guardianship Act) or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid BC Driver’s License.
Demonstrated interpersonal and clinical skills including crisis intervention, stabilization, de-escalation, and brief psychotherapy.
Demonstrated advanced competence in treatment of addiction and mental illness within a rehabilitation/recovery, harm-reduction focused model.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to operate a personal computer with Windows-based software
