About the role

Provide technical support and clinical assistance with induction, maintenance, and emergence of anesthesia under direct clinical supervision of the Attending Anesthesiologist.

Function as an integral member of the surgical team in accordance with Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society standards of practice guidelines.

Report to the Manager or Designate for learning outcomes and rotation schedule.

Participate in orientation and precept practice of technical duties as directed by a Qualified Anesthesia Assistant.

Demonstrate required proficiency in technical duties prior to completion of orientation process.

Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position. Reporting to the Manager or Designate, the Anesthesia Assistant Trainee functions as an integral member of the surgical team through provision of technical support and clinical assistance with induction, maintenance and emergence of anesthesia, under direct clinical supervision of the Attending Anesthesiologist and in accordance with the standards of practice guidelines of the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society. The Anesthesia Assistant Trainee reports to the Manager or Designate for learning outcomes and for schedule of rotation. The Manager or Designate in conjunction with the Anesthesiologist sponsor will assess trainee progress and develop ongoing plan to help the trainee meet all learning requirements. The Anesthesia Assistant Trainee will provide clinical assistance under the direct supervision of an Anesthesiologist. A Qualified Anesthesia Assistant will orientate the Anesthetic Assistant Trainee to the role including demonstration and precept practice of the technical duties associated with the role. The Manager or Designate and the supervising Attending Anesthesiologist(s) and/or Anesthesiologist sponsor will confirm and agree sufficient proficiency in the required technical duties prior to completion of the orientation process.

Qualifications

  • Education, Training And Experience Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. One year of critical care experience or two years' experience in an acute care environment. Active enrollment in the Thompson River University (TRU) Anesthesia Assistant post-diploma program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support. Skills And Abilities

Requirements

Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

One year of critical care experience or two years' experience in an acute care environment.

Active enrollment in the Thompson River University (TRU) Anesthesia Assistant post-diploma program.
