Provides nursing care to high-risk, critically ill clients in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, including those on life-support equipment. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to enhance quality of life and maintain clinical competence.

minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs) Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit.

In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations.

Salary Details The salary range for this position is CAD $41.42/Hr. - CAD $55.91/Hr.

Eligibility for the post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately two years recent acute medical/surgical experience upon critical care program full-time start date.

17, 2027*course dates will be modified based on previous courses completed, VCH only funds for required courses.Note: Eligibility for the post-basic training education is prioritized to applicants with approximately two years recent acute surgical experience upon critical care program full-time start date.

Applicants must successfully complete the post-basic training education prior to working in the Department.

Candidates accepting this training opportunity agree to remain with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a regular status nurse in the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they are hired for at least 18 months subsequent to completing training.

This will ensure that candidates are able to consolidate and apply skills in the specialty area that VCH has supported and funded candidates to complete.

In the event that a candidate leaves the area of nursing applicable to the education program for which they were hired or VCH in under 18 months, VCH will seek to recover the cost of the program.

Within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses, Code of Ethics and the established mission, vision, values, objectives and policies of Vancouver Coastal Health, provides nursing care to high risk critically ill clients with unpredictable outcomes attached to life-support equipment, and/or clients in post-anaesthetic recovery, both by working independently and as a member of a interdisciplinary team.

Enhances quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.

Consults, confers, and collaborates with other health care givers.

Demonstrates expertise and leadership in nursing practice.

Maintains and advances clinical competence.

Participates on designated hospital committees/teams and approved research projects as assigned.

Closing Statement The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.As per Ministry of Health policy, all health care workers working in publicly-funded health care facilities are required to report their past receipt of certain vaccines or history of certain infections.

Collecting these records will allow for offering of any missing vaccines, and for appropriate actions to be taken in the event of any future exposure to a communicable disease or during outbreaks.
