The Medical Lab Assistant is responsible for handling and preparing blood products, receiving samples, and performing equipment maintenance. They also manage blood product inventory and assist with stem cell reinfusions while maintaining quality assurance standards.
The role of the Transfusion Medicine Medical Laboratory Assistant involves blood product handling and preparation, receiving of samples, within scope quality assurance practices, loading of analyzers and equipment maintenance, inventory of blood products, reinfusion of Stem cell and other assistant duties within scope. Communication with other healthcare professionals related to Transfusion Medicine practices.

OSMT Certified 2.
Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate 3.
Demonstrated experience and proficiency in the use of the Meditech Blood Bank Module 4.
Current experience with blood product handling and preparation and transfusion practices 5.
Experience with blood procurement and Stem Cell reinfusions an asset 5.
Experience with CBS lookback/traceback process 6.
Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment 7.
Data entry skills preferred
Candidates must hold an OSMT certification and a Medical Laboratory Assistant Certificate. Proficiency in the Meditech Blood Bank Module and experience with blood product handling and transfusion practices are required.
