Position Summary

An exciting relief full time opportunity is now available for a Rural Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker with the Mental Health and Substance Use Aftercare Program at the 100 Mile House Hospital in 100 Mile House, B.C. This relief position is until September 1, 2027 or return of the incumbent. Who are we looking for? We are seeking an experienced and independent mental health professional with critical thinking skills to join our team. The successful candidate should have excellent communication skills and ability to problem solve solutions with clients as well as have a client care focus, trauma informed lens and understand the importance of teamwork. Aftercare clinicians are required to be familiar with policies and guidelines related to confidentiality and information sharing, including IH Privacy Policies, Family Involvement, Circle of Care, and the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Aftercare clinicians provide services that complement other treatment and recovery services (e.g., bed-based Substance Use (SU) services, Recovery Community Centres, etc.) and ensure people can access long term, evidence-based recovery-oriented supports in the community. Although called “aftercare” clinicians, these professionals provide clinical SU services that support pre-treatment readiness, as well as supporting access and flow to other SU services in the region. The Rural Adult Mental Health & Substance Use Worker functions as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, whose purpose is to ensure that adults with serious mental disorders and/or substance use have access to responsive, sensitive and relevant assessment and treatment services. The program serves the adult and elderly population that experiences mental health disorders or substance use and impairment in personal, family, financial, occupational and/or social life. This includes individuals with acute psychosis, bizarre behavior, depression, anxiety, complicated grief, suicidal ideation, substance use, substance dependence and concurrent disorders. The primary duties include intake assessment, crisis intervention, referral, case management, psychogeriatric support, collaborative community planning, psycho-education with clients and their families, and liaison with appropriate professionals. Duties include urgent response intervention to individuals in acute crisis, consultation with other care providers to identify educational needs for the community and subsequent strategies to address these needs, and to coordinate services for adults and elderly with mental health and/or substance use problems. Scheduling Information: Shift times are from 08:30 to 16:30 hours. Days of work are Monday to Friday. About the Aftercare program: Aftercare services are part of a continuum of addictions care services called Road to Recovery. When the Province announced funding in 2023, IH launched Aftercare in the spring of 2023. Aftercare provides support to those in recovery during their most vulnerable times: the period in-between treatment services or when going back into the community. Qualfications Education, Training and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in a Health, Behavioural or Social Science related field, from an accredited university. Two (2) years recent related experience in a community mental health and/or substance use setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
