About the role

The Homemaker provides non-medical support to adults living independently, including household cleaning, meal preparation, and companionship. They also assist with community activities and monitor the well-being and home conditions of clients.

Position Summary

The Homemaker provides non-medical support to adults living independently in their homes, including individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, mental health challenges, and other complex needs. This role promotes independence, safety, and quality of life through household assistance, cleaning, meal preparation, companionship, and community-based support. Key Responsibilities Perform housekeeping duties including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, laundry, dishwashing, and bathroom/kitchen cleaning. Assist with organizing and maintaining safe living environments, including decluttering and supporting clients to develop household routines. Work in a variety of home environments, including homes that may be cluttered or require extensive cleaning and organization. Support clients with meal planning, grocery shopping, and meal preparation. Provide companionship and encourage independence, community participation, and daily living skills. Accompany clients to appointments, errands, and community activities as required. Observe and report changes in client well-being, support needs, or home conditions. Complete required documentation and maintain confidentiality.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health concerns, or other support needs is an asset. Experience in homemaking, residential support, community support, or cleaning services preferred. Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and maintain professional boundaries.

Requirements

Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle. Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, reaching, standing, and cleaning for extended periods.
