The Public Health Nurse translates knowledge from the health and social sciences to support health-enhancing behaviors of individuals, families and population groups through targeted interventions, programs, and advocacy. Inherent in this role are knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, prevention, and protection. This employee focuses on the immunization program for adults, high risk individuals and international travelers and works relatively independently. This employee liaises with, and refers to, other health personnel, other sectors and community groups. The Public Health Nurse works within guidelines established by Health Region policy to plan, organize, implement and evaluate nursing programs in an assigned area, under the direction and supervision of a Public Health Nursing supervisor.
