Under the direction of the Manager, Clinical Coordinator or designate and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and performs nursing procedures. Performs a variety of orthopaedic technician functions such as applying and removing casts and splints and setting up, monitoring, and adjusting traction equipment as directed by the physician. The Orthopaedic LPN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and according to agency operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.
Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
Completion of recognized training in Orthopaedic Technology plus two years of Orthopaedic technician experience (or equivalent combination).
Ortho Tech LPN course required.
Minimum 3 years acute care (full scope) nursing.
Knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice including administering medications.
Ability to communicate effectively and deal with others effectively.
Ability to organize work and implement a plan of care.
Physical ability to carry out duties.
Criminal Record Check required for professional registration
