About the role

The Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care within a fast-paced, technologically integrated Emergency Department. They work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide nursing care according to professional standards of practice.

The Registered Nurse works as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the Hamilton General Hospital Emergency Department (ED). As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse coordinates and evaluates patient care and provides nursing care according to the standards of practice for Registered Nurses. ED nurses work in fast-paced, complex and highly technologically integrated environments. The RN will participate in ongoing education and development as they strive to provide the best care for all.

Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nursing of Ontario as a Registered Nurse Current certificate in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Demonstrated current experience in Emergency or Critical Care Nursing for adults and children; minimum two (2) years’ experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and management of a broad range of disease processes involving all age groups; e.g. critically ill, injured, episodic and non-urgent patients Demonstrated expertise in physical assessment, ECG interpretation, health teaching, and clinical decision making without a prior diagnosis of emergency presentations, in all age groups Demonstrated current knowledge of cardiac and respiratory arrest procedures Demonstrated knowledge of the community and hospital resources, including regional programs Proven ability to work in a high volume, high turnover environment Demonstrated proficiency in working with patients, families, peers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams, both in the hospital and in the community Demonstrated excellence in problem-solving and communication skills, both written and verbal Demonstrated strong leadership ability and organizational skills, ongoing professional development Ability to perform well in high stress situations Certification for Emergency Nursing (ENCP) preferred Critical Care Certificate preferred Current certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred Current certificate in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred Current certificate in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) preferred Current certificate in Trauma Nursing Competency Certificate (TNCC) preferred

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current CNO registration and BCLS certification, with a preference for two years of experience in Emergency or Critical Care nursing. Advanced certifications such as ACLS, PALS, and TNCC are preferred.
