About the role

The Outreach Counselor provides assessment, planning, and implementation of supports to help individuals with developmental disabilities achieve independent living goals. This involves collaborating with families, social workers, and Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) to deliver quality community-based services.

Position: Outreach Counselor

Description

Outreach Counselors at BACI ensures that people supported have the opportunity to pursue personalized goals in a valued and supportive environment. An Outreach Counselor provides assessment, planning and implementation of support for individuals receiving service through the department. The position supports individuals to achieve skills and knowledge to assist them in their daily independent living in the community. The position works closely with Community Living British Columbia (CLBC) and the individual's family and support network to ensure the establishment of meaningful goals and the delivery of quality service.

Roles & Responsibilities

Education & Qualifications

  • Graduation from a university or Community College with a degree or diploma in Human Services
  • An equivalent of education and experience may be considered
  • First Aid, CPR, TB clearance and a valid unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s license required
  • Use of personal vehicle required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated skill and ability in coaching, training, and supporting people with developmental disabilities to identify and accomplish a potentially broad range of goals
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with people who may have mental health issues, and/or substance abuse issues etc
  • Considerable background in direct program delivery in the Community Living field with a demonstrated working knowledge of community based programs and CLBC
  • Knowledge of the principles of harm reduction is an asset
  • Ability to design and implement person centered supports
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including the ability to be non-judgmental, respectful and empathetic
  • Good organization and time management skills and the ability to work effectively with families, social workers, CLBC facilitators and professionals
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours and/or weekends and evening
  • Working knowledge of computers required.

This position is open to all candidates and requires Union membership. This position requires clear criminal record search as per the Criminal Record Review Act. In addition, this position requires proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Location: Community Based

Salary

$26.74 - $30.69

Hours: Hours bi-weekly: 75

Schedule: Flexible Schedule

Starting date: ASAP

Requirements

Candidates must have a degree or diploma in Human Services, a valid Class 5 BC Driver's license, and a personal vehicle. Required certifications include First Aid, CPR, and TB clearance, along with a clear criminal record search and proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
