This is a position for a Registered Nurse who has completed the training required to be a Procedure Room Nurse and an In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) Nurse Coordinator and has demonstrated proficiency in the performance of nursing procedures in accordance with Olive Fertility Centre’s standards of care.
Prerequisites, knowledge, skills and abilities
1.
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BN), Nursing Science (BNS), or Science of Nursing (BScN) from an accredited university 2.
Current registration with the British Columbia College Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as Authorized to practice – Current – Practising RN 3.
Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider (current certification, within last year) 4.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider (current certification, within last 2 years) 5.
Safe and Effective Procedural Sedation and Analgesia (SEPSA) certification within last 2 years 6.
Phlebotomy training, including a combination of training and experience, proficiency in performing phlebotomy skills in a busy clinical environment.
If not already in possession of this certification, opportunity for training and practical experience will be provided on site.
7.
Experience in dispensing medications to patients, knowledge of and proficiency in the Rights of Medication Administration, and counselling patients on use of subcutaneous, IM, Oral and vaginal medications.
8.
Adequate computer skills.
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, in particular).
Understanding of the internet is necessary.

Previous experience in reproductive endocrinology is not required but is preferred however due to the complexities of this nursing specialty.
Previous experience in a high acuity, emergency, ICU or perioperative setting is an asset.
Previous gynaecology, labour and delivery, or sexual health nursing are also preferred experiences.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Clinic Manager.
This is a hybrid position involving both IVF and Procedure requirements.
Training will begin in procedures and then extend to IVF nurse training shortly thereafter.

The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator performs assigned duties at a proficient level and has been signed off by the Clinic Manager/Team Lead in accordance with Olive Fertility Centre’s procedures, protocols, and training manuals.
3.
The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator works in procedure rooms and recovery area at Olive and performs nursing functions supporting patients through their initial assessment, managing symptoms of fertility disease, teaching and guiding through treatment, managing early pregnancy and pregnancy loss, as well as the resolution of treatment.

The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator participates in procedural and team nursing, as well as monitoring patients in treatment.
Some nurses will have special assignments upon completion of probation period.

The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator practices independently within the scope of practice of an RN.

The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator will satisfactorily complete the required probation period.
2.
The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator will satisfactorily complete on-the-job training in basic nursing procedures within the first six months of employment.
3.
At the end of the six months training, and upon successful completion as judged by the Clinic Manager, the Division Leader – Procedures, or Team Lead Procedures, the Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator is signed off to perform procedures independently but under direct supervision to continue to acquire practical training/experience for the balance of one year.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications and relevant textbooks.
2.
Seeks out and completes continuing education modules, where available, and conferences in the field of infertility, women’s health nursing, or patient care excellence (per approval by manager).
3.
Seeks education internally from colleagues and peers, attending learning sessions offered by the employer when available.

Abide by and follow Olive Fertility Centre’s Code of Ethical Conduct.
2.
Maintains punctuality, arrives at work in the morning allowing time to change into scrubs (if needed) and begin patient care or assigned duty by scheduled start time.

Some specific roles, such as pharmacy and ultrasound, require care to start 5 minutes before the scheduled shift to have patients prepared for their ultrasound to start by 7:30 am (or as operationally required).

Nursing work is very demanding and requires maximum concentration and presence of mind.
All nurses must be cognizant of arriving to work rested, alert, and energetic.
4.
Wear scrubs only on the premises of the clinic, or within the building in which the clinic location is situated.
Coming from home, going home, or exiting the building while in scrubs is unacceptable and prohibited.

Consistently considerate of colleagues and maintains a professional environment.

Works cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team to provide excellent patient care, while meeting the objectives and goals of the practice.
2.
Works weekends and holidays as scheduled, inclusive of on-call responsibilities.
3.
Acts as a liaison between the nursing and other departments to disseminate information and communicate areas for continual quality improvement.
4.
Performs nursing duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager or Team Lead.
If the Nurse assesses their work demands on the day that they will be unable to complete assigned duties, it is their responsibility to seek the assistance of another nurse or advise the Clinic Manager or Team Lead early in the day for reassignment/assistance.
5.
Works with the physician care team and greater nursing team to assist in the fair distribution of nursing work and is proactive of helping others.
6.
Attends practice, team, and department meetings as requested.
7.
Assists the accounting department in assuring appropriate and timely billing for medications and services.
The Procedure/IVF Nurse Coordinator must read, understand, and follow the written Standard Operative Procedures and Protocols of Olive Fertility Centre.
