Crisis Response Student – Student Placement (Unpaid)
EveryMind Mental Health Services are looking for a Placement Student from a Child and Youth Worker Program, to complete their third-year placement work in the organization’s 24/7 Crisis Response program. This is an unpaid placement and will begin in the fall of 2026 until the spring of 2027 (6 months)
The Placement Student will assist Crisis Response Workers in responding to Mental Health crisis situations and provide both telephone & Mobile in-office/community-based assessment and intervention and service to children, youth and their families in the Region of Peel.
Specific Tasks
Under the direction and with the support of the Field Instructor, the student will:
Respond to crisis calls from clients in mental health crisis, in a timely manner, implementing verbal de-escalation techniques
Provide immediate crisis assessment and planning.
Develop and implement safety plans, as required.
Complete follow up calls and/or visits to the clients, to further support stabilization of the crisis situation and provide linkages to ongoing community supports or counselling;
Complete all necessary risk and behavioural assessments, utilizing tools such as Columbia Screener – Suicide assessment tool and Can-CAT- Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment;
Based on assessment, utilize effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills;
Work closely with other members of the Crisis Response Service;
Provide service in the home, in the school or in the community as needed;
Provide time-limited, transitional case management supports and collaboration with other service providers following the crisis response;
Be available to work flexible shifts according to a predetermined schedule since Crisis Response Services operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
