Job Description

This job posting will run concurrently for internal and external applicants. However, for the first ten (10) calendar days, current employees of York Housing & Support Services employees that are members of UFCW Local 175 will receive hiring preference. The Program Services Caseworker - Drop in will work within the Drop in Center. Provides Residential, Transition as well as outreach clients with encouragement and access to wrap around supports that ultimately lead to getting housed and staying housed. Supports and assists homeless and street-involved clients who access Sutton Youth Drop-in center. The Drop-in Centre is a comfortable, safe environment that aids Youth under the age of 25. ACCOUNTABILITIES: 1. Program Caseworker is to provide any drop-in client a comfortable and safe environment. Orientation of clients as to what the Drop-in Centre has to offer them – food; toiletry; showers; and laundry facilities. Advise clients of the expectations the Centre has from them. Develop programming, clubs, and schedules for Drop-in clients. Inform all Drop-in clients of available services in house and within the community. Provide clients with housing, health and social services/supports (internal and external referrals) Connect with shelter Caseworkers for any possible housing opportunities and/or referrals. Ensure work conditions are compliant with Health and Safety Report any safety issues that arise in the Drop-in to the Program Services Coordinator Relationship building with Drop-in clients. Develop effective working relationships and partnerships with community members, representatives of other departments, agencies, and co-workers. Provide crisis counseling and one-on-one support/brief intervention. Work with high-needs (low-functioning) clients that require extra individual informal counselling as some clients need continuous support and one-to-one attention. Support clients navigating the systems to ensure efficient and effective results. Advocate for client where required. Research and maintain relevant referral sources and pertinent programs that can benefit clients. Conduct Drop in Facility Security/Safety and Maintenance Checks on a regular basis according to policy and track any issues in Maintenance Request Binder Work with Supervisor to assist with supervision of clients. Ensure Drop-in clients needs are met and follow when required. 2. Administration Maintain drop-in client documentations; forms; logbook entries. Facilitate commencement of RRTIP for outreach clients Data entry of all required data fields in HIFIS. Compile and maintain relevant contacts within the systems. Collect and track statistics and other pertinent information for reporting purposes. Receive and ensure all donations are recorded according to policy. Answer all inquiries pertaining to the Drop-in Centre Issue Taxi Vouchers/ Transit Tickets and recorded according to policy. Record all physical facility/building problems in Maintenance Request Binder Other duties as assigned by Program Services Coordinator 3. Service Responsibilities Promote positive and supportive attitudes toward clients who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Empower clients to work towards their goals. Act as an advocate and be a positive role model for clients in the community. 4. Organizational Responsibilities Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values & philosophy of The Salvation Army, Residential Services, and the Regional Municipality of York. Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in service training. Engage in formal evaluation sessions with Program Services Coordinator at 3 month during first year of employment and annually thereafter Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and the Employees Handbook Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers of The Salvation Army Sutton Clients Shelter and Sutton Youth Shelter. Become familiar with the provision of the position description & operations manual, which will be provided for each job position. As required and is applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to Program Services; and represent the Organization in a professional manner Perform other duties as required EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Completion of a college diploma in Social Sciences field Experience with youth homelessness is an as asset (one to three years) EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health/Addictions Thorough knowledge and understanding of and a commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression and equity. Problem solving skills essential. The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communication skills (Processing/Desktop, Publishing, Spreadsheet/Graphing, Database computer skills essential) Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Valid Driver’s License would be an asset. Must have good interpersonal/time management skills. Good knowledge of community resources SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. NVCI certificate or willingness to obtain Vulnerable Sector Check: an original copy of a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that is less than six (6) months old is required by your start date, and the results of the check must be acceptable to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion. The cost of the VSC is borne by the employee.

Compensation

Please note that this job falls under a collective agreement. The starting wage and wage increments are provided based on collective agreement language.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $22.05 to $22.05 with a maximum of $22.05. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role. Requirements
