The veterinary student actively participates in the medical and technical activities of the clinic. Under the supervision of a veterinarian, the student contributes to patient care, technical support, consultation assistance, and surgical assistance, and may perform tasks normally assigned and/or delegated based on their level of competence and in accordance with applicable regulations. This position is designed to provide a meaningful and enriching clinical experience while also supporting the operational needs of the clinic. Students participating in the Vet Immersion program will also have the opportunity to attend a shadowing day at the Centre Vétérinaire Daubigny and participate in a course at the Daubigny Veterinary Academy. Key Responsibilities Medical Assistance Assist the veterinarian during consultations Contribute to the development of diagnostic and treatment plans Perform medical histories and collect client information Perform delegated medical procedures under supervision (physical exams, sample collection, cytology, etc.) Administer treatments and medications as directed by the veterinarian Patient Care Monitor hospitalized animals Place and maintain IV catheters Administer fluid therapy Provide wound care Monitor anesthesia Assist in surgery (preparation, asepsis, instrumentation, recovery) Technical Duties (Similar to Veterinary Technician/Assistant Role) Blood collection and laboratory analyses Radiography Preparation and maintenance of medical equipment Instrument sterilization Medical record keeping Client Service Communicate medical recommendations (as directed) Provide guidance on prevention and nutrition (as directed) Participate in follow-up calls General Support Maintain cleanliness of work areas Follow biosecurity protocols Collaborate with technical and administrative team members
Candidates must be enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of an AVMA-accredited veterinary medicine program. Authorization to work in Canada is required.
