About the role

Provide direct clinical care, assessment, and treatment for sexual health clients within a nurse-led clinic. Coordinate care for priority populations and conduct case and contact management for sexually transmitted bacterial and viral infections.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has exciting opportunity for one full-time Public Health Nurse, to fill an existing vacancy on the Sexual Health team at our Citi Plaza, London location. Flexible work hours are required (including working evenings). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direction of the Manager, Sexual Health the incumbent will: Provide direct client care, including nursing assessment, treatment, education, counselling, consultation, referral, and advocacy; Coordinate care for individuals and families with complex needs, and for priority populations; Use a variety of health communication, education, and skill-building strategies, to enhance access to sexual health services and promote optimal sexual health; Work under medical directives; Work in nurse led clinic providing sexual health clinical services; Build trusting nurse-client therapeutic relationships and create a safe space for clients to share personal and sensitive information; Support clients with more complex care needs in STI Clinic; Manage multiple complex sexual health issues over phone lines; Provide programs and services aimed at reducing sexually transmitted infections, unplanned pregnancies, substance abuse, and sexual assaults; Conduct case and contact management for STBBI’s; Provide sexual health promotion presentations and education at health fairs; Provide harm reduction materials and health teaching, birth control and STI teaching, and connect clients to community services; Provide coverage in the Needle Syringe Program; Maintain related records, documentation and statistics; Prepare reports as required, and in accordance with established standards and procedures using electronic medical records; and Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Baccalaureate Degree from an accredited nursing program (BScN); Current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses (CNO); Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication & presentation skills; Proficient technical skills in the areas of documentation, Microsoft Office, & Electronic Medical Records software; Flexible work hours are required (including Monday and Wednesday evenings until 8:30pm); Knowledge and experience with comprehensive population health promotion (e.g. working with community partners, developing sexual health campaigns, using social media, etc.); Knowledge and experience in ‎harm reduction, sexual health, sexually transmitted infections, and birth control, from both a clinical and health promotion perspective is strongly preferred; Preference will be given to those with experience and demonstrated ability to work with designated/marginalized/vulnerable clients engaged in at-risk behavior and in culturally diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients and families, health care staff and community partners. De-escalation and conflict resolution skills an asset. Motivational Interviewing skills an asset. Phlebotomy skills are an asset; Preference will be given to those with experience working within a sexual health clinical setting; and, The ability to communicate (oral and written) in French and/or any other language(s) is highly desirable. The annual salary for this position ranges from $74,171.19 to $101,149.78 based on qualifications and experience. Requirements

Requires a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BScN) and a current certificate of competence from the Ontario College of Nurses. Experience in sexual health, harm reduction, and working with marginalized populations is strongly preferred.
