About the role

Provide individual counselling, support, and case management for eligible clients aged 55 and up who are deaf or hard of hearing. Liaise with other agencies and services to promote client independence and enhance daily functioning and safety.

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a Hearing Care Counsellor based in Timmins.

Reporting to the Manger, Deafblind Services, the Hearing Care Counsellor will be responsible for providing individual counselling, support, and case management for eligible Hearing Care Counselling (HCC) clients (age 55 and up and hard of hearing or deaf).

This will be a 1-year contract, full-time position, working Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in the Social Services field along with 3-5 years’ counselling experience with the elderly.

French would be an asset.

You also have proven knowledge of and experience in the hearing loss field including evaluating hearing loss utilizing audio scope and audiometer testing devices as well as providing general instruction to clients in the use, care, and maintenance of hearing aids and assistive listening devices.

You have excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills including liaising and consulting with other counsellors, agencies, and services to promote the independence and empowerment of clients with acquired hearing loss, so as to enhance daily functioning, safety and social access.

You can handle vulnerable situations in a timely manner and can handle a changing environment, with the ability to manage a varied workload with competing priorities and deadlines.

Requirements
