About the role

Provide leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of major trauma and critically ill patients. Assess and manage a full spectrum of emergency presentations across all age groups, including medical, surgical, and mental health emergencies.

Company Description Aberdeen Hospital, located in the scenic and historic town of New Glasgow, is a cornerstone of healthcare delivery in Pictou County.

Founded in 1895, Aberdeen serves as the regional acute care facility, offering comprehensive inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services.

The hospital’s Emergency Department, a 25,000 square-foot facility redeveloped in 2017, features state-of-the-art critical care equipment in every room, two isolation units, two trauma bays with direct access to a helipad, and dedicated triage and specialty care spaces.

As a Level 2 emergency department, Aberdeen provides 24/7 access to emergency services.

In addition to emergency care, Aberdeen offers a broad spectrum of services including anesthesiology, cancer and supportive care, diagnostic imaging, family medicine, general and orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, maternal and child services, mental health and addiction services, nutrition and diabetic counselling, obstetrics and gynecology, occupational therapy, palliative care, pediatrics, physiotherapy, and radiology.

Job Description

Aberdeen Hospital is seeking Emergency Medicine Physicians to provide Locum coverage during a period of active recruitment.

Responsibilities

provide leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of major trauma patients and critically ill patients appropriately assess and manage the full spectrum of emergency medicine presentations from injury to unexpected and undifferentiated medical and surgical illness in all ages, to mental health emergencies Expected Hours full-time is defined at 1340 hours per annum, and will involve rotational shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays current shifts are 8h or 10h in length, with 10h of double coverage per day with additional physicians we will be transitioning to casino style 6h overnight shifts and 8h daytime shifts Compensation is provided by the service, and locum physicians are eligible to access the travel elements of the program, including reimbursement for kilometrage, per diems, accommodations (up to $300 per night), and airfare (up to $1,500), along with travel time up to 10 hours per week. Licensing fees for CPSNS are covered, and locum physicians may claim Facility On Call fees under specific conditions.

Qualifications

All applicants must be eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) All family physicians must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) All specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) All applicants must have a current PALS Certification All applicants must have a current ATLS Certification All applicants must have a current ACLS Certification
