About the role

The pathologist will perform autopsies, interpret surgical biopsies, and assess cytopathology specimens. They will also be responsible for interpreting peripheral blood smears and participating in multidisciplinary Tumor Boards.

Company Description Cape Breton Regional Hospital (CBRH), Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, is seeking two full-time pathologists with experience in both surgical biopsy and autopsy services.

Experience in the interpretation of peripheral blood smears is an asset.

Annually, the department handles over 15,000 surgical pathology specimens, 35-40 autopsies, and 16,000 cytopathology specimens.

The successful candidates will undertake clinical responsibilities in these services.

There is opportunity for a successful applicant to be the department head or associate/deputy head depending on experience and qualifications.

CBRH is the second-largest acute care facility in Nova Scotia.

It is part of a four-hospital complex that also includes Glace Bay, New Waterford Consolidated, and Northside General Hospitals.

Located in the historic town of Sydney CBRH provides a range of services through in-patient, outpatient, and community-based programs.

Expansion of the Cancer Care program in Eastern Zone provides a wide range of cases for the pathology service and regular participation in a multidisciplinary Tumor Board.

CBRH and Eastern Zone are part of Nova Scotia Health with access to a full range of pathologist subspecialists in Halifax for in-province consultations.

Responsibilities

Work a full scope of practice as a pathologist. Perform autopsies and the interpretation of surgical biopsies. Assess pathology and cytopathology specimens Perform interpretation of peripheral blood smears or be willing to train in this Expected Hours Full-time

Qualifications

All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) All specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) Canadian certification in either anatomical or general pathology is considered an asset
