About the role

The Behavioral Support Worker provides ongoing support and encouragement to residents with complex behavioral, mental health, and addiction diagnoses. They monitor resident status, identify behavioral triggers, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to implement individualized care plans.

The Opportunity: A Behavioural Support Worker (BSW) works as a member of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with the Resident Care Manager, Social Worker, and Occupational Therapist.

The BSW provides ongoing encouragement and support to residents with complex behaviors, mental health, behavioural and/or addiction diagnoses and meet individual needs within their level of knowledge, skill sets & competency.

The BSW observes, monitors and reports on client status/condition including changes in behavior, mental, emotional, and general physical status.

The BSW ensures that changes in resident status are reported to the assigned interdisciplinary staff member.

What Is In It For You: Observe and reports on resident status/condition.

Reports any changes in the resident’s mental, emotional and physical status to a regulated professional as soon as possible.

Conducts behavioural observations and identifies patterns and triggers.

Supports development and implementation of individualized care plans.

Introduces preventative strategies before escalation occurs.

Participates in the development of the Care Plan by sharing observations, information and knowledge of the needs and strengths of the residents.

Reviews care plans and make suggestions to the assigned Regulated staff member(s).

Participates and/or provides input into care conferences as needed.

Demonstrates the ability to identify and address any issues or care approaches that may impact client safety.

Implements interventions or actions in accordance with the care plan.

Spends 1-1 time with residents as schedule allows.

Encourages social interaction with and between residents.

Welcomes new residents and families and orientates them to the room, unit, our home environment as required.

Maintains confidentiality for all residents and staff to ensure individual rights are respected and protected (Health Information Act, Freedom of Information & Privacy Act, Protection of Persons in Care Act).

Communicates all relevant information to the regulated professional (to ensure that communication to the next shift is optimized).

What You Will Need: Minimum of two years of experience working in a complex behavior, mental health or addictions setting.

Diploma/degree in Community/Behaviour or rehabilitation-focused background, Addictions, Aboriginal Studies or other related field.

Experience in non-violent crisis intervention and behaviour management.

Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.

Certified in CPR and First Aid, and ASIST would be an asset.

Requirements

Candidates must have at least two years of experience in complex behavior, mental health, or addictions settings. A diploma or degree in a related field such as Community/Behavioral studies or Rehabilitation is required, along with CPR and First Aid certification.
