Position Summary

We are currently hiring a relief part time (0.60 FTE) Community Mental Health Worker 1 to join our Mental Health Substance Use (MHSU) team at the Rocky Mountain Lodge in Cranbrook, B.C. This relief position is until February 7, 2028 or return of the incumbent. Interior Health and our partner agencies provide a range of mental health and substance use services for all ages. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in a dynamic, community-based setting and brings a strong understanding of mental health and substance use issues. The successful candidate must be skilled at fostering independence and promoting recovery through psychosocial rehabilitation and harm reduction principles. This person is patient, non-judgmental, and comfortable working one-on-one with clients in their homes and the broader community. The successful candidate possesses the ability to model and support the development of daily living skills, including wellness management, budgeting, communication, and community access. This person will be an effective communicator who can establish trust and rapport with clients, work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and navigate community resources to enhance client outcomes. Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a commitment to empowering clients in their recovery journey are essential for this role.

The Community Mental Health Worker 1 functions as part of an integrated multidisciplinary Mental Health & Substance Use (MHSU) Team and performs a variety of life skills and general support duties involving clients who are living in their own housing. Reporting to the HCIS Manager or designate, and in accordance with established treatment plans, this position provides services within a psychosocial rehabilitation and harm reduction framework for the assigned client population(s) with severe mental illnesses and/or substance use disorders. Provides support to clients in the development and maintenance of the skills required to live successfully in their own homes. The Community Mental Health Worker 1 is expected to engage clients in various community settings as people with full potential and as meaningful collaborators in their own service planning, delivery and evaluation. Scheduling Information: Shifts types are days and shift of work are from 08:30 to 16:30hours. Days of work are Wednesday to Friday. How will you create an impact? Requirements

Grade 12.

Certificate in a field relevant to the position (e.g., Community Mental Health Certificate, Human Service Worker Certificate, Social Services Worker Certificate, etc.).

One year recent related experience working with clients experiencing mental health and/or substance use problems; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Food Safe certificate required (must be valid prior to starting).

Current valid B.C.

Driver’s License (Class 5).

Working knowledge of mental health issues and treatment for the assigned client population(s).

Working knowledge of recovery principles in mental illness.

Working knowledge of community, social and health resources.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients and work with culturally diverse populations.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and meet deadlines.

Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations and use non-violent crisis intervention techniques.

Physical ability to carry out duties.

Proficiency in relevant computer applications

  • Grade 12
