Provide assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach, detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients with mental health and/or alcohol and drug addiction problems and their caregivers/families.
Work under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator or designate within organizational frameworks and standards.
Deliver rehabilitation/recovery harm-reduction focused services as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Support clients through outreach, clinical assessment, recovery-oriented practice, and psychosocial rehabilitation to promote stability, independence, and community integration.
Engage clients in community settings.
Travel between multiple sites as required and arrange transportation in accordance with operational requirements (may require use of personal vehicle).
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients, caregivers/families, and the interdisciplinary team.
Maintain client assessment, observation, and judgment in working with addiction clients.
Operate a personal computer with Windows-based software and operate related equipment

Under the direction of the Clinical Coordinator or designate, works within the organization's framework and standards, and a rehabilitation/recovery harm reduction focused model, as a member of a interdisciplinary treatment team, the Case Worker provides assessment, intervention, treatment, outreach and/or detoxification and/or recovery consultation and referral for clients experiencing mental health and/or alcohol & drug addiction problems and their caregivers/families. Travel may be a requirement of this position and transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle; and Valid Driver's License.
Baccalaureate degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.
Recognized post-basic education related to mental illness and/or alcohol and drug addiction; up to two (2) years recent related experience.
Understanding of mental health and alcohol and drug addiction issues, including substance misuse assessments, treatment methodologies, intervention strategies, the change process, and community dynamics.
Knowledge of applicable legislation such as Mental Health and Child Protection legislation.
Knowledge of available programs and services and their interrelationships in delivering community services.
Experience working with adults and youth with mental health and substance use issues.
Valid BC Driver's License.
Demonstrated competence in treatment of addiction and mental illness congruent with VIHA framework and standards within a rehabilitation/recovery harm-reduction focused model.
Effective communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
Organizational, problem solving, and teaching skills.
Judgment, good observation, client assessment skills, tact and empathy.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team and promote positive change and independence.
